A boutique vineyard nestled in the hills of Los Gatos, California. We produce a unique, high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon wine sourced from our estate vineyard.
Nestled on the Eastern slopes of the Santa Cruz Mountains having the perfect terroir for growing Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The vineyard is planted on two hillsides each having a different soil profile; one side consists of crushed shale and the other of fertile soil. A slope of 35 degrees and South-Western exposure ensures that every vine has a consistent sun exposure and maximum airflow. The unique microclimate with sunny days leads to higher levels of maturation, while the cool nights allow the grapes to retain acidity and balance.
The King of the Red Wine Grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon grapes produce a wine that is full-bodied with fruity flavors. We have planted two French clones recently introduced to the US. The clones are low yielding, yet produce high quality, good berry size, and a well-balanced acid-to-sugar ratio grapes creating deeply colored wines with extraordinary complexity.
Julie and Albert Kurkchubasche have been living in the Bay Area for over 25 years. Julie is an M.D. and owns a Pediatric practice in Los Gatos. Albert works for a multinational software company that develops design and simulation software. We have two children attending the Los Gatos schools. Our son has a passion for flying and will be attending the aeronautical program at Embry-Riddle, and our daughter loves movies, film production and photography.
We are privileged to be living in a great community which is part of the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. This area is one of the finest wine growing regions in North America featuring many innovative small wineries. We enjoy the local and organic food movement -- visiting farmer markets, dinning at local establishments and visiting the local wineries.
In 2010 we were fortunate to find this South-Western facing hillside property in Los Gatos. Our love for wine and gardening led to the idea that a vineyard was ideal. We started our research into growing grape vines. Our goal was not just to produce any wine, but to produce a unique, high-quality wine. Soon afterwards we met with Coastal Range Vineyard who further advised us, planted and maintains our vineyard. Seven years later we are ready to release our first year’s Cabernet Sauvignon, 2014. We have been blessed with fabulous Cabernet clones we selected, the lush hillside and our unique microclimate that our vines have become unbelievably PROLIFIC.
